The short version
Guess a hidden 5-letter word in 6 tries. After each guess, every tile turns green (right letter, right spot), yellow (right letter, wrong spot), or gray (letter not in the word). Use that feedback to narrow the field. Solve in fewer guesses and less time to score higher. Every Wordleos world uses these same rules — only the word bank changes.
Step-by-step: how a round works
- Pick a world. Every Wordleos board pulls its 5-letter answers from one themed bank — Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Marvel, Star Wars, anime, or Disney. Optionally narrow further to a themed pack inside that world (e.g. "Noble Houses" instead of the full Game of Thrones bank).
- Type a 5-letter word and press Enter. Wordleos checks it against a dictionary of valid guesses — it does not have to be one of the game's own themed answers, any real 5-letter English word works as a guess (though themed words often help more).
- Read the tile colors.
- Green — that letter is in the answer, in that exact position.
- Yellow — that letter is in the answer, but in a different position.
- Gray — that letter is not in the answer at all.
- Repeat, using each new clue to eliminate options. A letter that comes back gray never appears again in the word (unless it also came back green or yellow elsewhere in a word with a repeated letter — Wordleos tiles show duplicate letters correctly, so a letter can be both yellow in one position and gray in another if it appears once in the answer but you guessed it twice).
- Solve within 6 guesses to win. If you run out of guesses, the answer is revealed along with a short lore note where one exists, so a loss still teaches you something for next time.
How scoring works
Every completed round earns a numeric score, used for the leaderboard and your personal best. The formula rewards solving fast, in few guesses, and on an active streak:
- Win score = (7 − guesses used) × 100, plus a time bonus of up to 180 points (1 point per second under 3 minutes), then multiplied by a streak bonus of +10% per consecutive daily win.
- Loss score = guesses used × 10 — a small consolation score rather than zero, so losses still register on stat totals without inflating the leaderboard.
In practice: a 2-guess win in 45 seconds with a 5-day streak scores meaningfully higher than a 5-guess win in 3 minutes with no streak — both variables matter, not just guess count.
Daily, Endless, and Themed Packs compared

The Daily Trio picks three of the nine worlds using the day's puzzle number, so every player worldwide gets the same trio on the same day — it is not random per visitor. Complete all three legs to finish the day's Trio and unlock its combined share card.
Hard mode and Streak Freeze
Hard mode forces you to reuse every green and yellow clue in later guesses — you cannot ignore a known letter to test an unrelated word. It is optional and toggled before you start a round.
Streak Freeze protects your Daily streak if you miss exactly one calendar day: you get up to 2 freezes per UTC month, applied automatically the next time you play. It does not cover multi-day gaps.
Playing on keyboard, touch, and mobile
On desktop, type letters with your physical keyboard, press Backspace to delete, and press Enter to submit a guess — there is no need to click into the board first. On phone or tablet, use the on-screen keyboard rendered under the board; it enforces the same green/yellow/gray coloring as the physical keyboard shortcut, so a letter you have already ruled out visibly grays out there too, making it easier to avoid retyping a letter you already know isn't in the word.
Wordleos requires no install and no app-store download on any device — every world runs directly in the browser, including Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android, and the board automatically resizes for smaller screens without losing tile legibility.
Resetting or losing your stats
Because stats live in your browser's local storage rather than an account, a few actions will reset them: clearing your browser's site data or cookies, using a private/incognito window (which never persists storage after the window closes), or switching to a different browser or device. There is no way to recover a cleared local streak, since Wordleos never stores it anywhere else — this is a deliberate trade-off for staying account-free. If keeping a permanent record matters to you, screenshot your stats panel periodically rather than relying on browser storage indefinitely.

Is Wordleos free to play?
Yes. Every Wordleos game — daily challenge, endless mode, and all themed packs across all nine worlds — is completely free, runs in your browser, and never requires an account or sign-up.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Wordleos is fully responsive with a touch keyboard built in, and works on iPhone, Android, tablets, and desktop browsers. Nothing to install.
Do I need an account to save my progress?
No. Your stats — win streak, best time, guess distribution, and Streak Freeze allowance — are saved locally in your browser (localStorage), not tied to an account. Clearing your browser data or switching devices resets them.
What is hard mode?
Hard mode requires that any hint you have already found (a green or yellow letter) must be used in all subsequent guesses. It makes each guess more informative but removes the option to "throw away" a guess purely to test new letters.
Why did my guess get rejected?
Wordleos only accepts guesses that are real 5-letter words recognized by its dictionary check. If your guess is rejected, the tile row will shake — try a different real word.
What happens if I run out of guesses?
After 6 unsuccessful guesses the round ends and the correct answer is revealed, along with a short lore note (where available) explaining what the word refers to. Your stats record it as a loss, and in Daily mode your streak resets unless you have a Streak Freeze available.
